Atorvastatin Impurities
Atorvastatin is a widely prescribed statin medication used to lower cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, including heart attacks and strokes. It works by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which plays a key role in the liver's production of cholesterol. By reducing cholesterol synthesis, atorvastatin helps lower low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol ("bad" cholesterol) and triglycerides, while slightly increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol ("good" cholesterol). It is typically prescribed for individuals with hyperlipidemia, atherosclerosis, or a history of cardiovascular events. Atorvastatin may also help reduce inflammation in the arteries, improving overall heart health.
