Fenofibrate Impurites
Fenofibrate is a lipid-lowering medication used to treat hyperlipidemia and hypertriglyceridemia by reducing cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood. It belongs to the fibrate class of drugs and works by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPAR-α), which enhances lipid metabolism. This activation promotes the breakdown of triglycerides and the elimination of very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) particles, helping reduce total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides, while increasing HDL cholesterol levels. Fenofibrate is commonly used to manage dyslipidemia and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events, particularly in patients at high risk of heart disease or pancreatitis.
