Meloxicam Impurities
Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) primarily used to relieve pain and inflammation associated with conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other musculoskeletal disorders. It works by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX), specifically the COX-2 isoform, which reduces the production of prostaglandins that cause pain, fever, and swelling. Meloxicam's selective COX-2 inhibition offers a potentially lower risk of gastrointestinal side effects compared to non-selective NSAIDs. It is typically available in oral tablet form but can also be administered as an injection. Common side effects include gastrointestinal issues, dizziness, and headaches, and it should be used cautiously in patients with kidney or liver problems.
