Enterovirus
Enteroviruses are a genus of RNA viruses that include polioviruses, coxsackieviruses, echoviruses, and enteroviruses, which commonly infect humans and cause a variety of illnesses ranging from mild respiratory symptoms to severe neurological diseases like poliomyelitis. These viruses typically enter the body through the gastrointestinal tract but spread to affect other systems, notably the central nervous system. Targeting enteroviruses therapeutically involves developing antiviral drugs that inhibit viral replication and vaccines to prevent infection. Given their ability to cause outbreaks and severe complications, effective management and prevention strategies are crucial.
