HSV
Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) refers to two types of viruses: HSV-1 and HSV-2. HSV-1 primarily causes oral herpes, leading to cold sores or fever blisters around the mouth. HSV-2 is commonly associated with genital herpes, resulting in sores in the genital and anal areas. Both types can spread through direct contact with herpes sores or skin where the virus is shedding, including via kissing or sexual contact. While symptoms can be managed with antiviral medications, there is no cure for HSV, and it remains in the body for life. Despite its prevalence, HSV often stays dormant, with periodic outbreaks triggered by factors like stress or illness.
