Antibiotics
Antibiotics are a class of secondary metabolites with anti-pathogen or other activities produced by microorganisms or higher animals and plants in the process of life, which can interfere with the development function of other living cells. Antibiotics are mainly used in medical applications, but also in bioscience research, agriculture, animal husbandry, and the food industry. They can play a role by inhibiting or killing the growth of other species of microorganisms. Commonly used antibiotics include β-lactams, aminoglycosides, macrolides, lincomycins, peptides, quinolones, sulfonamides, antituberculosis drugs, antifungals and other antibiotics.
