TOPK
TOPK (T-LAK cell-originated protein kinase), also known as PDZ-binding kinase or PBK, is a serine/threonine kinase involved in cell division and the cellular stress response. It is highly expressed in rapidly proliferating cells, particularly in embryonic and cancer cells, suggesting a role in tumor progression and malignancy. TOPK phosphorylates various substrates that regulate critical pathways for mitosis and cytokinesis. Due to its overexpression in numerous cancers and its minimal presence in normal tissues, TOPK is an attractive target for cancer therapy. Inhibiting TOPK activity has shown promise in reducing tumor growth and enhancing the efficacy of chemotherapy, making it a focus of ongoing cancer research and drug development efforts.
