Bombesin Receptor
Bombesin receptors are a family of G protein-coupled receptors that respond to the neuropeptide bombesin, a regulatory molecule involved in various physiological processes. There are three main types of bombesin receptors: BB1 (neuromedin B receptor), BB2 (gastrin-releasing peptide receptor, GRPR), and BB3 (bombesin receptor subtype 3). These receptors are expressed in various tissues and are particularly notable for their role in gastrointestinal function, regulating the release of gastrin, as well as in energy metabolism and thermoregulation. Bombesin receptors have also been implicated in the progression of several cancers, including prostate and breast cancer, making them targets for diagnostic imaging and therapeutic intervention in oncology.
