Cannabinoid Receptor
Cannabinoid receptors are part of the endocannabinoid system, which plays a crucial role in regulating physiological processes including appetite, pain sensation, mood, and memory. These receptors are predominantly of two types: CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are primarily located in the central nervous system and affect neurotransmitter release, thereby influencing mood, hunger, and pain perception. CB2 receptors are mostly found on immune cells and influence inflammation and immune response. Both receptors are activated by endogenous cannabinoids or by external sources such as cannabis. Cannabinoid receptors are targeted therapeutically to manage conditions such as chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, and cancer symptoms, leveraging their pivotal role in homeostasis.
