MALT1
MALT1 (Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma translocation protein 1) is a protein that plays a critical role in immune response regulation. It functions mainly within the NF-κB signaling pathway, essential for immune cell activation and inflammatory responses. MALT1's activation occurs through its role as a paracaspase, where it cleaves specific substrates, thus influencing various cellular functions. This protein is particularly significant in the context of antigen receptor signaling on B cells and T cells. Genetic aberrations involving MALT1, such as chromosomal translocations, are associated with certain types of lymphomas, notably MALT lymphomas. Recent studies also suggest its potential as a therapeutic target in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases due to its pivotal role in immune regulation.
