YAP
YAP (Yes-associated protein) is a transcriptional coactivator that plays a crucial role in the Hippo signaling pathway, which regulates cell proliferation, apoptosis, and organ size. YAP functions as a downstream effector that, when activated, translocates into the nucleus to interact with TEAD family transcription factors, promoting the expression of genes that drive cell growth and inhibit apoptosis. Overactivation of YAP is associated with various cancers, as it can promote oncogenic properties such as uncontrolled cell division and resistance to cell death. Consequently, YAP is a target for cancer therapy, with research focused on developing inhibitors that can modulate its activity to prevent tumor progression and metastasis.
