Urobilin(CAT: M122277) is a yellow-brown pigment that is a byproduct of the breakdown of heme, which occurs in the body after red blood cells are destroyed. It is formed from urobilinogen, a colorless compound produced in the intestines from bilirubin by gut bacteria. Urobilin is responsible for the characteristic yellow color of urine and contributes to the brown color of feces. Its levels can indicate liver function and the effectiveness of bile excretion. Abnormal urobilin levels in urine may be a sign of liver or biliary tract diseases, such as jaundice or hepatitis.
