6-Methylsulfinylhexyl isothiocyanate (6-MSITC) is a natural ITC first isolated from wasabi (<em>W. japonica</em>). It has diverse effects on intracellular signaling, gene expression, and cell cycling in different types of cells in culture. These include inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, blocking inflammatory signaling in leukocytes, altering platelet aggregation, and inducing anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant genes. 6-MSITC also demonstrates neuroprotective effects in a mouse model of Parkinson’s disease.
