68Ga-PSMA-11 is a radiopharmaceutical used in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging to detect prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) expression in prostate cancer. It consists of gallium-68 (68Ga), a radioactive isotope, bound to a molecule that specifically targets PSMA, a protein overexpressed on the surface of prostate cancer cells. Upon injection, 68Ga-PSMA-11 binds to PSMA, allowing PET scans to visualize the presence and extent of prostate cancer cells, including metastases. This imaging technique is valuable for staging prostate cancer, detecting recurrent disease, and guiding treatment decisions, offering improved accuracy in the assessment of prostate cancer.
