Acifluorfen-sodium(CAT: I021297) is a diphenyl ether herbicide used to control broadleaf weeds and some grasses in various crops, including soybeans, peanuts, and rice. It functions by inhibiting the enzyme protoporphyrinogen oxidase (PPO), which is essential for chlorophyll and heme biosynthesis. This inhibition leads to the accumulation of protoporphyrin IX, a photosensitive compound that, upon exposure to light, generates reactive oxygen species (ROS). The resulting oxidative damage causes lipid peroxidation and cell membrane destruction, leading to rapid plant death. Acifluorfen-sodium is widely used in agriculture for effective post-emergence weed control.
