Alatrofloxacin(Cat No.:M100703)is a synthetic fluoroquinolone antibiotic, the prodrug form of trovofloxacin. It is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including respiratory, urinary tract, and skin infections. Alatrofloxacin is converted in the body to its active form, trovofloxacin, which inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes crucial for bacterial DNA replication. This mechanism of action prevents the growth and reproduction of bacteria. Although effective against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, its use has been limited due to concerns about side effects such as hepatotoxicity, and it is less commonly prescribed today.
