Aurothioglucose, also known as gold thioglucose (CAT: I000840), is a widely recognized active-site inhibitor of the enzyme thioredoxin reductase 1 (TrxR1). It exerts its inhibitory effect by targeting the active site of TrxR1 and interfering with its catalytic activity. Studies have shown that aurothioglucose can effectively inhibit TrxR1 activity in cellular systems, such as HeLa cell cytosol. Interestingly, despite its inhibitory action on TrxR1, aurothioglucose does not significantly affect the viability of the cells. This unique property makes aurothioglucose a valuable tool for investigating the role of TrxR1 in cellular processes and exploring potential therapeutic applications targeting this enzyme.
