AWD 131-138 (Imepitoin; CAT: I002426) is a compound that acts as a low-affinity partial agonist of the benzodiazepine receptor. It has been found to exhibit potent anticonvulsant and anxiolytic properties in rodent models. In vitro, studies have shown that AWD 131-138 stimulates GABA currents through recombinant GABA(A) receptors of various subunit compositions. In vivo, studies have demonstrated that AWD 131-138 does not produce midazolam-like effects or alter response rates at cumulative doses. Substitution experiments have shown that responding declines to vehicle levels with AWD 131-138. Prolonged oral administration of AWD 131-138 in animal models has not been associated with a loss of anticonvulsant efficacy.
