AZD-5991 (CAT: I019688) is a small-molecule inhibitor that targets the anti-apoptotic protein Mcl-1 (myeloid cell leukemia 1). Mcl-1 is a member of the Bcl-2 protein family and plays a critical role in promoting cancer cell survival by preventing apoptosis. AZD-5991 selectively binds to Mcl-1, displacing the pro-apoptotic proteins Bak and Bim, thereby promoting apoptosis in cancer cells. This inhibition of the Mcl-1 function has shown promising anti-cancer effects in preclinical studies, including both solid tumors and hematological malignancies. AZD-5991 is being investigated as a potential therapeutic option for cancer treatment, particularly in cases where elevated Mcl-1 levels contribute to treatment resistance. Clinical trials are underway to evaluate its safety and efficacy in cancer patients.
