BAY 41-2272(Cat No.:I002874) is a pharmacological compound known as a soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC) activator. It acts by binding to the heme moiety of sGC and enhances the conversion of guanosine triphosphate (GTP) to cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP). By activating sGC, BAY 41-2272 increases intracellular levels of cGMP, which in turn leads to various physiological effects such as vasodilation, smooth muscle relaxation, and inhibition of platelet aggregation. It is utilized in research and pharmaceutical development for investigating the role of the nitric oxide-cGMP pathway and potential therapeutic applications.
