Benzoyl chloride is an organic compound. It is a colorless, fuming liquid with a strong odor, used primarily as a reagent in organic synthesis. Benzoyl chloride reacts readily with nucleophiles such as alcohols and amines, forming esters and amides, respectively. It is also employed in the production of benzoyl peroxide, a widely used acne treatment, and as a precursor in pharmaceuticals and dyes manufacturing.
