Bicyclopyrone is known for its herbicidal properties and is used in agriculture as an active ingredient in herbicide formulations. By inhibiting the enzyme 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD), bicyclopyrone disrupts the biosynthesis of essential plant pigments, leading to chlorosis and eventual death of target weeds.
