Biotin-VAD-FMK(CAT: I013640)is a cell-permeable and irreversible caspase inhibitor that is biotin-labeled. It is commonly used to identify active caspases in cell lysates. Caspases are a family of cysteine proteases that play crucial roles in apoptosis (programmed cell death) and other cellular processes. Biotin-VAD-FMK covalently binds to the active site of caspases, inhibiting their activity and allowing for their detection and measurement. By incorporating a biotin tag, Biotin-VAD-FMK enables subsequent detection using streptavidin-based assays, such as Western blotting or immunofluorescence, providing insights into caspase activation and apoptosis-related processes in cells.
