BT173(CAT: I023756) is a potent and selective inhibitor of Homeodomain Interacting Protein Kinase 2 (HIPK2). Unlike traditional kinase inhibitors, BT173 does not block HIPK2’s catalytic activity but allosterically disrupts its interaction with Smad3. This unique mechanism interferes with the TGF-β1/Smad3 signaling pathway, leading to attenuation of renal fibrosis. BT173 is a valuable research tool for exploring fibrotic diseases and understanding non-canonical modulation of kinase function. Its specificity and novel mode of action make it ideal for studying HIPK2-related signaling mechanisms and developing targeted anti-fibrotic strategies.
