Cenegermin (trade name Oxervate) is a medication used to treat neurotrophic keratitis, a rare degenerative disease of the cornea. Neurotrophic keratitis is characterized by reduced corneal sensitivity due to damage to the trigeminal nerve, leading to persistent corneal epithelial defects and impaired healing. Cenegermin is a recombinant human nerve growth factor (rhNGF) that promotes the regrowth of corneal nerves and restores the cornea’s natural healing process. By supporting corneal tissue regeneration, cenegermin helps address the underlying cause of neurotrophic keratitis. It is administered as eye drops and represents a targeted treatment for this challenging condition.
