Cyclic GMP-AMP (cGAMP)(CAT: I005090) is a second messenger molecule that plays an important role in the immune response to viral infections. It is produced by the enzyme cGAS (cyclic GMP-AMP synthase) when it detects the presence of foreign DNA, such as that from a virus. cGAMP then binds to the protein STING (stimulator of interferon genes), which triggers the production of type I interferons and other cytokines that help fight the infection. cGAMP has also been studied for its potential as an adjuvant in cancer immunotherapy, as it can stimulate the immune system to attack tumor cells.
