Cinacalcet(CAT: I002732), also known as AMG-073, is an orally active calcimimetic compound. It belongs to the class of second-generation calcimimetics and is used for the treatment of hyperparathyroidism. Cinacalcet acts by increasing the sensitivity of the calcium-sensing receptors in the parathyroid gland to extracellular calcium levels. By doing so, it reduces the secretion of parathyroid hormone (PTH), which plays a crucial role in regulating calcium and phosphorus levels in the body. By effectively controlling PTH levels, cinacalcet helps to manage hyperparathyroidism in patients with chronic kidney disease and parathyroid carcinoma.
