Cuprizone(Cat No.:I025286) is a chemical compound that induces demyelination, the loss of myelin sheaths around nerve fibers, and subsequent motor dysfunction. It achieves this by upregulating insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), a protein involved in promoting myelination and neuronal survival. By increasing the levels of IGF-1, cuprizone disrupts the normal process of myelin formation and maintenance, leading to demyelination. This model is commonly used in research to study demyelinating diseases, such as multiple sclerosis, and investigate potential therapeutic interventions for these conditions.
