Dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)(Cat No.:M144090)is a sulfated polysaccharide derived from dextran, composed of glucose units with sulfate ester groups and sodium counterions. It is highly water-soluble and negatively charged, making it useful in a range of biomedical and research applications. DSS is most notably used to induce colitis in experimental animal models, mimicking inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) for pathophysiological and therapeutic studies. It also functions as an anticoagulant, antiviral agent, and molecular weight modulator in biochemical research. DSS is available in defined molecular weights and should be handled under sterile conditions.
