Dinoseb is a dinitrophenol herbicide and pesticide historically used in agriculture for weed control. It works by uncoupling oxidative phosphorylation in plant cells, effectively halting energy production, which leads to the death of unwanted vegetation. Despite its efficacy, Dinoseb is highly toxic to humans, animals, and the environment. Prolonged exposure can cause serious health issues, including reproductive toxicity and skin irritation. Due to these risks, Dinoseb has been banned or severely restricted in many countries. Its environmental persistence and toxicity have made it a subject of concern in regulatory and environmental safety contexts.
