Doxazosin (CAT: I004756), also known as UK 33274, is a medication belonging to the class of quinazoline derivatives. It acts as a selective antagonist of postsynaptic α1-adrenergic receptors. By blocking these receptors, doxazosin relaxes smooth muscles in the prostate, bladder neck, and blood vessels. This leads to the dilation of blood vessels and a reduction in blood pressure, making it useful in the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). Additionally, doxazosin is also prescribed for the management of urinary symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate).
