Elsulfavirine (CAT: I005564), also known as VM-1500A, is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) used in the treatment of HIV-1 infection. It works by specifically targeting the reverse transcriptase enzyme of the virus, inhibiting its activity and preventing viral replication. Elsulfavirine has demonstrated potent antiviral activity against a wide range of HIV-1 strains, including those resistant to other NNRTIs. It is administered orally and is generally well-tolerated with a favorable safety profile. Elsulfavirine is often used in combination with other antiretroviral drugs as part of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) regimens to achieve durable viral suppression and improve the immune function of HIV-infected individuals.
