Firategrast (CAT: I003463) is an orally active small molecule integrin antagonist that targets the α4β1 and α4β7 integrins. It selectively inhibits the interaction between integrins and their ligands, such as vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) and mucosal addressin cell adhesion molecule-1 (MAdCAM-1), which are involved in leukocyte adhesion and migration. By blocking these integrins, firategrast reduces the recruitment and activation of inflammatory cells, thereby suppressing inflammation. It has shown potential therapeutic effects in various inflammatory conditions, including inflammatory bowel disease and multiple sclerosis.
