Ga-68 dotatate is a radiopharmaceutical used in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging to visualize somatostatin receptor-positive tumors. It consists of the radioactive isotope gallium-68 (Ga-68) bound to a compound called DOTATATE, which has a high affinity for somatostatin receptors commonly found on neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). Upon injection, Ga-68 dotatate selectively binds to these receptors, allowing PET scans to visualize and locate somatostatin receptor-positive tumors with high precision. This imaging technique is valuable for diagnosing and staging NETs, as well as for monitoring their response to treatment, offering a non-invasive and accurate method for assessing these types of tumors.
