Heparin lithium salt (CAT: I019694) is a complex mixture of sulfated glycosaminoglycans. It is derived from porcine intestinal mucosa or bovine lung tissue and is widely used as an anticoagulant medication. Heparin acts as a potent inhibitor of blood clotting by binding to antithrombin III, a natural anticoagulant protein in the blood. This binding enhances the inhibitory effect of antithrombin III on various coagulation factors, such as thrombin and factor Xa, preventing the formation of blood clots.
