Hydroxy-α-sanshool (CAT: I018400) is an alkylamide derived from the pepper that exhibits unique pharmacological properties. It acts as a covalent agonist of the TRPA1 receptor and a non-covalent agonist of the TRPV1 receptor. Its binding and activation of these ion channels result in distinct cellular responses. With an EC50 of 69 µM, Hydroxy-α-sanshool activates TRPA1, contributing to sensory perceptions like pungency and tingling. Moreover, it activates TRPV1 with an EC50 of 1.1 µM, enhancing sensations of heat and pain.
