Imipramine is a first generation tricyclic antidepressant that acts primarily as an inhibitor of serotonin and norepinephrine transporters (K<sub>d</sub>s = 1.4 and 37 nM, respectively). It also is an antagonist at histamine, muscarinic acetylcholine, and α<sub>1</sub>-<wbr></wbr>adrenergic receptors (K<sub>d</sub> values are 37, 46, and 32 nM for H<sub>1</sub>, M<sub>1</sub>, and α<sub>1</sub>, respectively).
