IR-806 is a near-infrared cyanine liquid crystal dye. IR-806 can be used as a molecular antenna to synthesized nanoprobes (NPs). IR-806 can be used for in vivo imaging studies[1][2].
IR-806 (0.1 mg) and folic acid (0.02 mg) were activated with EDC/NHS (1×10−4 mol) in DMSO (10 mL) solution. After 30 mins, the PL-PEG-NH2 coated UCN solution (containing UCNs 5 mg) was added and stirred at room temperature for 4 hrs. The reaction product was purified by centrifugation at 10,000 rpm for 5 mins and suspended in 5 mL of DMSO, obtained upconversion nanocrystals (UCNs) for the preparation of nanoprobes[2].
