JC-1(Cat No.:I012543)is a fluorescent dye commonly used in cell biology and molecular research to assess mitochondrial membrane potential. It works by selectively accumulating in mitochondria, where it forms aggregates in healthy cells with high membrane potential, emitting red fluorescence. In cells with depolarized mitochondria (as seen in stress or disease conditions), JC-1 remains in its monomeric form, emitting green fluorescence. This shift in fluorescence is used to evaluate mitochondrial health, apoptosis, and cellular responses to treatments, making JC-1 a valuable tool for studying cellular metabolism, toxicity, and mitochondrial dysfunction.
