Letaxaban is an oral direct factor Xa inhibitor developed as an anticoagulant. It works by selectively inhibiting factor Xa, an essential enzyme in the coagulation cascade, preventing the formation of blood clots. Letaxaban has been investigated for its potential to treat and prevent thromboembolic disorders, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), as well as for stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation. Its mechanism of action, similar to other factor Xa inhibitors, offers an alternative to traditional anticoagulants like warfarin, with the potential for fewer dietary restrictions and a lower risk of bleeding. However, its development was discontinued.
