Levamisole is an anthelmintic and immunomodulatory drug originally used to treat parasitic infections, particularly in animals and humans. It works by inhibiting microtubule formation in parasitic worms, leading to their paralysis and death. Levamisole has also been used in combination with chemotherapy to enhance the immune system’s response in cancer treatment. However, its use has been associated with side effects such as agranulocytosis (a reduction in white blood cells), limiting its clinical applications. It is now less commonly used in modern medicine.
