Marinopyrrole A(CAT: I000883), also known as Maritoclax, is a specific inhibitor of Mcl-1, a member of the Bcl-2 family of proteins. It exhibits an IC50 value of 10.1 μM and over 8-fold selectivity for Mcl-1 compared to Bcl-xl. In vitro, studies have demonstrated that maritoclax effectively inhibits the viability of Mcl-1-dependent cells with selectivity for Mcl-1 over other Bcl-2 family members. It induces caspase-3 activation and reduces Mcl-1 protein levels, leading to cell death. Marinopyrrole A exhibits potent bactericidal activity against MRSA strains with a favorable resistance profile. Further, in vivo, studies are required to evaluate its efficacy and safety for therapeutic applications.
