Melanotan I（Cat No.:P000195）, also known as afamelanotide, is a synthetic analog of the naturally occurring alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). It works by stimulating melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing melanin—the pigment that gives skin its color. Increased melanin production leads to skin tanning, providing a protective effect against ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Melanotan I is primarily used in the treatment of erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP), a rare genetic disorder causing extreme sensitivity to sunlight.
