meta-iodoHoechst 33258 (CAT: I002007) is a member of the Hoechst family of blue fluorescent dyes commonly used for DNA staining. Like other Hoechst dyes, meta-iodoHoechst 33258 is excited by ultraviolet light at around 350 nm and emits blue/cyan fluorescent light around an emission maximum of 461 nm. These dyes specifically bind to the minor groove of double-stranded DNA, with a preference for sequences rich in adenine and thymine. They are cell-permeable and can be used to stain DNA in live or fixed cells. The fluorescence emitted by the bound dye allows for the visualization and quantification of DNA in various biological samples.
