MK-3328 is an investigational antifungal agent that inhibits β-1,3-glucan synthase, an enzyme critical for fungal cell wall synthesis. By disrupting this process, MK-3328 weakens the cell wall, leading to the death of fungal cells. It has demonstrated efficacy against a variety of fungal pathogens, including Candida species, and is particularly valuable in cases where resistance to traditional antifungals, such as azoles and echinocandins, poses a challenge. MK-3328’s unique mechanism of action and broad-spectrum activity make it a promising candidate for treating both invasive and drug-resistant fungal infections.
