MPP hydrochloride (Cat No.:I043635) is a neurotoxic compound widely used in research to model Parkinson’s disease. It is the active metabolite of MPTP, a protoxin that crosses the blood-brain barrier and is converted into MPP⁺ by monoamine oxidase-B in glial cells. MPP⁺ selectively enters dopaminergic neurons via the dopamine transporter and accumulates in mitochondria, where it disrupts oxidative phosphorylation, leading to energy failure and cell death. This compound is a valuable tool for studying dopaminergic neurodegeneration, mitochondrial dysfunction, and potential neuroprotective strategies in Parkinson’s disease research.
