Nialamide (CAT: I000010) is a non-selective and irreversible monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) belonging to the hydrazine class. It was previously used as an antidepressant medication. As an MAOI, nialamide inhibits the activity of monoamine oxidase enzymes, which are responsible for the breakdown of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. By inhibiting monoamine oxidase, nialamide increases the levels of these neurotransmitters in the brain, leading to potential mood-elevating effects.
