Oxonic acid potassium salt (CAT: I002691) has been reported as an inhibitor of uricase, an enzyme involved in the metabolism of uric acid. It has been observed to inhibit the phosphorylation of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) to 5-fluorouridine-5′-monophosphate (5-FUMP) catalyzed by pyrimidine phosphoribosyltransferase (PPRT) in cell-free extracts and intact cells in vitro. This inhibition occurs through a different mechanism compared to allopurinol, another uricase inhibitor. The specific details of the inhibitory mechanism and the potential implications of this activity warrant further investigation and research.
