Phenformin hydrochloride(Cat No.:A000869)is an oral biguanide medication primarily used to manage type 2 diabetes. It enhances insulin sensitivity, reduces hepatic glucose production, and increases peripheral glucose uptake, leading to improved glycemic control. Although effective, phenformin has been largely replaced by metformin due to concerns about lactic acidosis, a rare but serious side effect. Research has also explored phenformin’s potential anti-cancer properties, as it may inhibit tumor growth and induce apoptosis in certain cancer cell lines. Despite its risks, phenformin remains of interest in the context of diabetes and cancer research.
