Polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid sodium (CAT: I016843), a synthetic analog of double-stranded RNA, functions as an agonist of toll-like receptor 3 (TLR3) and retinoic acid inducible gene I (RIG-I)-like receptors (RIG-I and MDA5). It has multiple immunomodulatory effects and can be utilized as a vaccine adjuvant to enhance innate and adaptive immune responses. Additionally, Polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid sodium has been shown to induce apoptosis directly in cancer cells. In vitro, studies demonstrate that treatment with Polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid sodium reduces cell viability and induces apoptosis in various cancer cell lines. It also induces the expression of IFN-β, a key cytokine involved in antiviral and antitumor immune responses, through the activation of RIG-I and MDA-5. Moreover, Polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid sodium exhibits tumor growth inhibition in animal models. Proper preparation of Polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid sodium for injection involves solubilization and annealing of the double-stranded RNA.
